Before Your First Visit
You will be able to book a Free Consultation at the bottom of this page. However, please read each section below carefully before booking your free consultation. It is important that each of these steps is understood.
Why A Free Consultation?
So you are interested in seeing a psychologist. In that case, I would like to help you understand a few important details about seeing a psychologist before we begin. Not all psychologists give free initial consultations, however, I feel it is strongly beneficial. The free initial consultation is up to 15 minutes long. The purpose of this consultation is for us to talk and decide if I can help you and if we are a good "fit". I also need to clarify my role and goal for therapy, and you may do the same. Moreover, we should discuss the possible length of sessions and period of contact, any details that need resolving and to prepare for an assessment interview (if we decide to go forward with treatment).
Additionally, there are a few things that all new clients need to understand, particularly about how I approach therapy. I conduct "Cognitive Behaviour Therapy" or CBT: a structured and directive approach (this approach has been proven in research to be the best treatment for anxiety and depression). I think it is important that you understand how it works and if you are prepared to put in the effort that is required to get maximum results. CBT is a highly structured approach that requires a significant amount of active participation (for example - homework tasks). In contrast, some psychologists might take a passive approach of soft, supportive listening. Although I am also very supportive and I listen well, I believe that is only the basics of good therapy, and therefore I also build very active strategies into your treatment plan; strategies that I will encourage you to participate wholeheartedly.
If you decide to book a "free initial consultation" please be considerate and ensure that you are committed to the appointment BEFORE booking it. A psychologist usually has many clients who are in need of the appointment times available, and if you do not attend because you have changed your mind, this causes an inconvenience for the existing clients. Occasionally, you will need to reschedule a therapy appointment. Appointments are always rescheduled via the link you will receive in your confirmation email when you book an appointment. Please ensure that you give me 24 hours notice of you rescheduling your therapy appointment otherwise the full fee for the appointment will be charged.
